Countless men grow up without dad around. In
my case it was through the death of my father just prior to my
birth. Others experience a sense of loss because dad was
emotionally absent. Receiving healing from "Fatherloss"
is not an event, it is a journey. My hope and prayer is that this
site can be a source strength and healing to you on your journey
into wholeness. Please stay tuned as this site develops. --- Drew

I plan to
review some books (Bly, Nouwen, Eldredge, Dalbey, Buechner,
Peck, Crabb, Yancey) that have important reflections from those
that have struggled to find healing in the midst of
loss. However, it's most productive to hear from those who
have experienced fatherloss and consider insights and experiences that
have been sources of healing. In this way we can all be "wounded
healers" discovering that our story can bring life and hope
to others.
- Why this
Website on Growing up
Fatherless?
- Many struggle
with unresolved "fatherloss" issues (through the
early death of a father or through emotional
absence)
- We
can receive healing through sharing
our stories and learning from one
another.
- I'll be overjoyed if this site helps the fatherless receive
healing from the experience of others.
- Most individuals
don't have the time to wade through numerous books on this
subject.
- As we receive
emotional / spiritual healing we can be set free to enter
God's purpose for our lives.
- This is a huge issue that most people (especially men) tend to avoid.
Perhaps there's something here that can "break the
ice."
- This site can be a resource for
mentors of younger men.
I will
be posting some book reviews and other helpful material here in the near future.
However, the heart of this site will be the sharing
of stories. At this time I'm focusing on the masculine journey although
I hope to broaden the discussion in the future.
It's not just men who struggle with
fatherloss.
If you stumble across this web site
consider submitting a short account of your experience of growing
up fatherless and what if any have been sources of healing for
you. If you are willing I will post it up for others to see.
Take the risk. This can be a great source of wisdom and insight
to others struggling with issues around "fatherloss" or
"father wounds" of any kind. Please keep it short. If
it's one page in length the first half could be "My
Story" and the second half could be "How I
have found healing ." That will make it concise and accessible
to others. It doesn't need to be erudite, it just needs
to be real. I'm a Christian Pastor and I passionately believe
that Jesus Christ is the "wonderful counselor" who
brings wholeness to the broken places of our lives. However, I
would like this site to be open to all people regardless of tradition
or creed.
